Homemade Butter Simple, Fresh, and Delicious

There’s something magical about making butter from scratch. With just a few ingredients and a little patience, you can create creamy, flavorful butter that’s perfect for spreading on warm bread or adding richness to your favorite recipes. Here’s how you can make your own butter at home—no fancy equipment required!

Ingredients:

  • Heavy Cream
  • Salt (optional, for salted butter)

Directions:

  1. Whip the Cream:
Pour your heavy cream into a stand mixer or use a hand mixer. Start whipping on medium speed. Pause occasionally to scrape down the sides, ensuring everything whips evenly.

  2. Watch the Transformation:
First, the cream will turn into whipped cream. Keep going! Soon, you’ll notice the buttermilk separating from the butter solids.

  3. Drain the Buttermilk:
Carefully pour off the liquid buttermilk. (Tip: Save it for baking—homemade buttermilk pancakes are a treat!)

  4. Shape and Squeeze:
Gather the butter into a ball and gently squeeze out any remaining buttermilk. This step helps your butter stay fresh longer.

  5. Rinse in Ice Water:
Dip the butter ball into a bowl of ice water. Squeeze and knead until no more buttermilk comes out. This ensures a smooth, creamy texture and helps preserve your butter.
If you love salted butter, mix in a pinch of salt to taste.
