Biscuits and Gravy Casserole
Ingredients
For the Gravy:
- 1 lb spicy breakfast sausage
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- Milk (as needed)
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
For the Casserole:
- 6 large eggs
- Splash of milk
- 3 cups shredded cheddar cheese (divided: 2 cups for the casserole, 1 cup for topping)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 8 refrigerated biscuits
Instructions
- Prepare the Sausage Gravy:
- In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the sausage until fully cooked, about 8–10 minutes. Remove the sausage, leaving the flavorful drippings in the pan.
- Add butter to the skillet, then sprinkle in the flour. Stir constantly to create a roux, cooking until the mixture is golden and fragrant.
- Gradually whisk in milk until the gravy reaches your desired consistency. Season with salt and pepper. Let the gravy simmer, adding more milk if needed.
- Stir half of the cooked sausage into the gravy and set aside.
- Assemble the Casserole:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 13x9-inch baking dish.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, 2 cups of cheddar cheese, a splash of milk, salt, and pepper.
- Pour the egg mixture into the prepared baking dish. Evenly arrange the biscuits on top.
- Drizzle half of the sausage gravy over the biscuits. Sprinkle with the remaining cheese and the rest of the crumbled sausage.
- Bake and Serve:
- Bake for 35–45 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden and the eggs are set.
- Remove from the oven, top with the remaining gravy, and serve warm. Enjoy a comforting, crowd-pleasing breakfast!
